movers will literally pack up anything and everything that isn't nailed down unless you tell them not to

someone just didn't think ahead far enough to tell them what to pack and what to leave off the truck. which tracks.

I'm pretty sure they said it was in a box/packed away though and movers don't box your stuff for you

They do if they are also a packing service, which is usually much more expensive. Typical movers do not pack/box anything unless it's in a state where it can't be safely moved/stacked, and they may leave things behind unless directed to take it.

they don't just box random shit that's lying around up unless you left it with the stuff that you specifically instructed them to pack, though.

like if you leave your laptop sitting on the kitchen table, they aren't just going to stick that in a box without checking with you.
