so clearly none of you know what it's like to be living paycheck to paycheck in america. yes, trying to get money from your RP friends on plurk sucks but the rest of this is just shitting on someone for being poor.

the reality is if she wanted to move there would NEVER be a better time than now. even if she saved as much as she could it'd likely be a few hundred bucks a year put away, not enough to make a reasonable dent in the cost especially with inflation. if you're miserable where you are and you're poor the choice is to stay there or move and accept that it's going to get you deeper in debt that you might never pay off. that is AMERICAN REALITY.

second, having bad credit is not an indicator of responsibility. credit is made to benefit banks and corporations. there are some big bootlicker attitudes going on here. if you are poor and have a large emergency expense you have to take out a loan to pay it, even if you know you can't pay it back, because failing to do so could mean losing your house or your job or your LIFE. the only thing bad credit says about a person is that they've been poor and in a bad situation. period.

third, doing things like drinking beer at a pub is not what makes people poor. cutting back on things like occasional eating out and alcohol would save a miniscule amount of money in the grand scheme of thing. do you ever look up "why doesn't poor people sell their playstation"? go look it up. 90% of your expenses are things like rent, cutting that last 10% down to 7% by living on gruel and having no fun will not make a meaningful impact on your savings account. but the privileged techies of wankgate probably think poor people need to sell their fridge to get by or they're not really poor so this will fall on deaf ears.

anon, you are generally correct? but in this specific instance, that beer could literally tip the scales on whether or not all of their belongings, including their laptop they accidentally packed, end up auctioned off by the moving company. because that's what happens when you don't pay the movers.

that's not at all what's happening in this thread.

this person isn't getting put down for the "crime" of being poor. or having to live paycheck to paycheck. but for consistently making poor decisions that continue to worsen her own situation.

pretty likely that this is gonna end with her losing her stuff. because she didn't pay the people she needs to pay.

not at all what is happening. they had cheaper alternatives, they have been ignoring them since the beginning of this, even when they still had time.

why did they need to fly? why did they need to ship their cars? why hire a moving company for more than loading/unloading when you could have driven?

yeah, driving sucks, but i'm sorry they went about this in the most expensive way possible, and cat admitted she knew this many different times. Plane tickets, all encompassing movers, car shipping, shipping the pets on the flight, et. al.

this is not about the moving company misquoting her (especially when they dragged their asses packing, rushed the process, and probably miscommunicated to the movers in the first place). and this is not about anyone poor-shaming them. we're all fucking strapped for resources, which is why people are so incensed at the clueless level of her asking for $2k > $3k > $5k > $6k as the amount just kept increasing. none of us are a magic resource for her, and she has been offered alternatives just to shoot them down as they're given.

her asking for ideas now is a bit rich, honestly. would she even listen to them if they're not that tumblr level of uwu self-care?

all of this. there were ways to do what they wanted to do for a fraction of what they ended up paying if they had just done some research instead of jumping in with both feet. i know people who have moved cross-country for less than half of what they're begging for. they packed up their stuff themselves, rented a uhaul, drove, and stayed in pet-friendly motels.

criticising the pub thing is definitely bitch eating crackers hysterics on anon's part, no contest there. if they're eating out every single day, then maybe, but having a beer once isn't going to make or break the debt situation (plus it's entirely possible their friend treated them)

i do think you're glossing over the part where these folks made some extremely unforced errors. having debt or bad credit doesn't mean you're irresponsible, but a $4000 gaffe with the movers might. especially when it means that they're looking at losing their stuff because they cannot pay for the service they bought. it's a shitty situation and i do feel bad for them, but so much of this seems like it was preventable.

THE PRIVILEGED TECHIES OF WANKGATE ahahahaha

the beer shaming is pretty ridiculous i'll agree with you there, but also the fact is optics matter. i've seen people begging for rent money and then immediately after posting about unboxing their new anime waifu figurines. maybe they preordered the fig when they were flush with cash. maybe a friend sold it to them for cheapo. maybe they inherited it from great aunt mildred when she died. maybe they bought it because they thought the cost of Big Titty Waifu was nothing compared to how much they owed for rent. but either way, it doesn't make me want to throw my hard earned money their way when i'm saving my money by not buying my own beloved waifus

the reality is if she wanted to move there would NEVER be a better time than now

do you mean now as in 'now, because daily things get more expensive so you should get out asap' or now as in 'now, in the middle of one of the worst housing cost crises in american history', because lol

anyway. most dwrpers range from poor to middle class. this is a cheap hobby. the vitriol here isn't bagging on someone for being poor, it's because we know how privileged and spoiled the mindset is to be doing what they're doing. sure must be nice to get your dumbass friends to bail you out while you consistently make the worst decisions possible. why plan ahead when you can just visit the bank of plurk?

also why did they have to move THERE, SPECIFICALLY as opposed to one of a myriad of places that are much closer but also less ohio?
