my theory is that theres two major types of dwrp pedo:

- sad nerds convinced that if they werent sexy as teens, its impossible to be sexy ever. they werent sexy as teens irl. so all their sex thoughts focus on teen sex since they never developed their own sexuality past that stage.

- 4chan neck/legbeards of the gsai ilk who are deadass into explicit pedo content and use the fig leaf of "its animated/fictional" to pretend theyre somehow not actually pedophilic

the second type can be further subdivided into pedos who can accept that others dont want to see their pedo shit (the weird loli players who are ok with it when you set boundaries with them,) and pedos who cannot accept that and think everyone needs to make way for their disgusting perversions (gsai.)

youll never get any of these people to stop fapping over their gross shit. they also get red hot outraged if you suggest theres anything weird about them. i recommend simply making fun of them for your own entertainment.

fair point, esp that last one, and i appreciate the thoughts. i think i just want it explained so i dont have to sit here and speculate, but even then it's not going to stop people from doing whatever, which i guess is the ultimate goal. i do want people to stop sexualizing kids, but that's not going to happen, like you said

the first type was honestly my theory as well, because i cant imagine what else would make someone find teen sex rp appealing as a demographic of mostly 30/40+ women [aside from being actual IRL creeps, which i feel like cant be the only case]

you are aware that the things you are talking about involve characters that aren’t real? there are actual therapies for people who, with whatever struggles they may be dealing with, that recommend things like this to help them deal with those problems as they don’t harm any actual people including the patient themselves.

but that’s not my business to ask people about. it’s certainly not yours either.

if something makes you uncomfortable, you need to learn to curate you experience, scroll, block, whatever.

we've got the (maybe fake) incest meme, the kidnapping meme, the taboo sex meme, aphrodisiac whatever, memes about murder, memes about rape, memes about kidnapping and stockholm syndrome, memes about beating the shit out of one another, and the underage sex is what you're raising an eyebrow about??

here's my take on the 'why' as someone who actually doesn't care for or enjoy writing teenage/high school aged characters - a lot of popular media features teenagers in high school. in plenty of cultures, high school is often a glorified time of our lives, a lot is made about first crushes, first kiss, first everythings, prom, homecoming, nerds and geeks and freaks and jocks. people miss that time in their lives before they were adults with adult worries and burdens and enjoy reliving it through rping teenagers. people also like the explore the teenage brainspace of immaturity + hormones + impulsiveness and what kind of character chemistry that might result.

but i think you make a good point. i think it's easier for me to see something like a murder meme as pure fiction without seeing it as wrong or concerning, but the underage/rape memes feel way more Weird. maybe because murder is more common with like true crime and horror movies? i wouldnt see anything wrong with someone watching the new scream movie, but i'd be super weirded out if someone was telling me how much they liked that cuties movies on netflix

teens are full of hormones and emotions and are still in the process of learning how to regulate both of those things. sex involves both hormones and emotions. it's a recipe for what can be a very emotionally charged situation, especially if they're both doing it for the first time with all of the added weight that entails.

I’m someone who is disinterested in writing or reading about fake teens having sex. I don’t have any sort of moral feeling. Teens are going to have sex, the majority of the time with each other and slightly older people, both in reality and in fiction. I’m just not interested because these days I don’t consume much media with characters in that age range, and rarely play them, so it’s never applicable to me.

That said, I think you need to be careful about the word “children”, and question what you mean by that word. A negligible amount of players in DWRP are writing characters under 14. Most of the teen characters are on the older end, and not all of them are having sex, much less explicit sex. Suggesting players are writing “children” can feel hostile and uncharitable.

On top of that, most of those teen characters are from settings where teenagers often have a degree of responsibility, power, and social capital that’s unprecedented for real teens. A lot of them are fighting in wars, hunting supernatural creatures, in kill-or-be-killed scenarios, often with minimal to no adult supervision, if there are adults in their lives at all. This is especially prevalent in a lot of anime, but is true of a lot of western media too. While they may be technically 16, ask yourself: if the character’s age was stated to be 26 all along, would you even notice? What if they were said to be in college instead of high school? For actual “children” characters, who behave like children, you generally couldn’t change a number and have the character still make sense.

And even if a character is truly the most run of the mill high schooler possible and baby faced as hell: it’s still fiction. You don’t have to read it, nor do you have to speculate on the motivations of people writing it. There are virtually no minors in this space, and the ages of the characters involved are incidental 99% of the time, NOT the motivating trait. If anyone here wanted to engage with “pedophilia” with any seriousness or intent to groom, there are many other places on the Internet they could do that. You do not need to jump at shadows here, or think poorly of people when no harm has been done.
