one player apped their character as a CRAU from one of the monster transformation games. said character has wings and the player has always played them as having some discomfort with that, which was fine.

recently another player bought wings for their character as an activity reward and this player and the initial player have decided to treat it akin to a disability because they have to custom tailor clothes and the feathers molt. the original player has now described their plans to continue to purchase bird features for the character as a progressing disability and has talked about the "winged community" needing support and accommodation. the wings = disability parallel is something they are explicitly bringing up over and over, this isn't me interpreting generic transformation angst as offensive.

idek i just think it's in poor taste to both treat this as a metaphor for disability and even worse taste to then go and purchase additional disability for your character with activity rewards.

still, imo it would be worthwhile to reach out to the players (or to the mods, to do so on your behalf) and ask if they could maybe reel in the direct 1:1 disability comparison—especially since it seems like at least initially you didn't find the first player's handling of it to be in poor taste. that player presumably just got a bit carried away in the excitement of plotting new Sad About Inhuman Wings cr.

i thought maybe there could be a less gruesome read on this. maybe this player has a medical condition, maybe just acquired a medical condition, is working through some shit about what it means to be disabled. maybe theyre scared of disability, same thing. no doubt its offensive, but its offensiveness is so weird and, by your telling, so persistent, that it suggests the player has something on their mind.

maybe easier working through disability feelings when the "disability" is something initially beautiful. and hey, maybe the next bird feature is their genitals and ass are replaced by a cloaca and they have a lot of fucked up feelings about that. a beak, or losing your hands and thumbs and getting claws instead - those might be real downgrades. maybe they pick up Bird Tourette's and start cawing repetitive birdsong instead of being able to speak normally. i dunno. like i said, this is fanfic. its just that maybe theres a bigger picture.

in your fanfic they're no longer just drawing a bunch of offensive parallels, they're also using their fellow players as free therapy without asking. i don't think ayrt even gave them a motivation, just stated the facts of what was done and their own opinion on it being in poor taste.

yeah? i think shit is more interesting when people have weird reasons for doing things. i dont think someone should be blindly offensive, and if someone tells those people to stop, they should stop. but until someone tells them to stop, why not speculate on the weird reasons theyre doing it?

to actually respond semi-seriously, wg has a habit of forgetting context and converting all sorts of hearsay/speculation into fact especially after enough rounds of telephone. it seems better to me to not introduce it at all.

not really, they're just saying that if someone says 'they're doing this because of their horrible medical condition' enough people are going to fail to parent up and sincerely go, "yeah everyone knows they have this weird medical condition and that's why they're doing this weird bird thing"

Are you ready for someone to treat your character's fantasy!disability like it makes them a complete freak and make fun of them for it? Well, some people play asshole characters. Would they do that in real life to an actual disabled person? Absolutely fucking not, but this is not a real disability and they're playing an asshole and they have no idea this is some way for you to cope and heal.

My character would think this winged character is a freak of nature. I’d feel bad ooc if it caused the other player pain, as I don’t want anyone to be hurt, but I would NEVER play with that player again. I don’t want to be responsible for a stranger’s mental health.
