if you buy a lottery scratch off at a convenience store, and you win $50, and you turn in the ticket at the store, and the store gives you $50, you worked for the store. its the same as a job. you went there, did something, and got money. its employment.

except the argument was never about whether you're legally an employee, it was that financial compensation in exchange for participation is in function the same as financial compensation in exchange for participation

not sure what youre quibbling about. employment is financial compensation for participation. scratch offs are financial compensation for participation. takes place at the same location. same guy hands you the same money. they are the same thing.

derailing this very important topic a bit but i saw the Scholastic Book Fair bus at the elementary school in my neighborhood yesterday and felt all nostalgic

anon, same. my guy and i were driving past a school with the sign up and we were like, do you wanna get some posters. i bet they have crazy amounts of pokemon garbage in there, lets go.

we did not go we were not serious. have to say it so the wg Bad Faith Harpy Airborne Unit 101 doesnt double derail this post accusing us of stealing all the my hero academia merch from deserving eight year olds.

I did substitute teaching for a while and let me tell you, teaching at a school on book fair day was a fucking treat even in my 20s.

man those were always a bummer to me because i could never afford anything

i didn't experience scholastic book fairs bc i'm not american. but i grew up poor and man, this punched me right in the childhood feels

being that kid who can't afford anything sucks so hard.

yes! my nephew recently had one and he got like 10+ books. i was a little jealous lmao
