from what i've seen on the plurk linked there is a lot of positive reaction?? although it's just a select few atm so the current playerbase might not have seen it yet. i still think the mods could have either raised the player cap or done a wait list like what you mentioned. either one could have worked better than making the game player invite only. especially when the mods are aware that many people want to join

yeah ngl i'm disappointed because i'd been considering tossing a character onto the next tdm but right now the muse i'm feeling the most is from an incredibly obscure canon so the chances of me getting an invite are pretty much zilch and i don't know anyone in the game well enough to feel comfortable asking for an invite from one of them.

Hate it. Now it'll become friend clique central.

It isn't what I would've done, or perhaps not how I would've done it, but given the amount of interest and work the game needs, I understand it. I think the six month mark and the tightening AC constraints will open more slots soon, and being active on the TDM will become a more tenable way to get an invite.

It's a good sign the mods are taking into account the potential longevity of the game, and that's a good thing at the end of the day.

i'm willing to wait and see how it works in action. i think they're probably trying to cut down on getting a really long wait list by putting in an extra step to get on there.

In the long distant past I've seen other huge games try to lock down to limitations like caps and invite policies and their playerbases and prospective players acted like they were cliquish for daring to keep people out, so they didn't go through with it. Then I watched the mods burn out and those same games gradually imploded under their own weight or their mods just eventually burnt out and had to close down.

The game is immensely popular and going invite-only, capping, and waitlisting it is the smartest thing they can do, given the interest. Anyone that complains about that isn't factoring in the lessons learned from some of the dead mega-games of RP past. The more popular it is, the more methods they're justified in using to lock it down, including using multiple methods simultaneously.

It's disappointing but it's the trolley problem. The health of a game for the majority matters more than some players having to find their fun elsewhere.

I suspect the problem will get better as new sex games open up, honestly. Right now the major issue is that there's very few choices to spread people out.

I understand why they are doing it the way they are but I feel like it significantly cuts off potential new players from joining all together and that is massively disappointing. I can see future cast-mates from animes or shows having a chance if they post in the TDM but RIP to those with obscure canon characters or even OCS. You can kiss that dream goodbye then IG.

i don’t really understand where this certainty is coming from. i’m in the game with a character from an obscure canon, and i have never had any issue with lack of interest. i have also noticed that ocs seem to get plenty of interest and play as well. i know it’s a little too much to expect of wg, but maybe people should just tdm and see how things go rather than doomsaying. if you have a good time on the tdm and other people have a good time threading with you, why wouldn’t they extend an invite if they want to continue with the cr in the game?

and, if what all you’re saying is true and the next tdm is a stagnant ghost town, then you can come back here and bitch with actual reason

It sucks but with how popular the game is, I don't think the mods can sustain it as an open game so it makes sense. Another sex game is opening up so anons can try that one instead.

no skin in the game, as i have no interest in joining gp, but i don't see going invite-only as solving their problem, given the current size of the game. if even 20% of the playerbase extends invites, that will cover all their available slots, meaning a bloodbath is inevitable when apps open amd the waitlist will stay interminable. the only difference is who's moisturizing in the massacre.

choosing to go invite-only for crowd control makes sense when you start (and can be worthwhile for other non-cap reasons) but opting for it now won't help until player numbers have gone down.

yeah, these are my thoughts. people are naturally going to want to extend their invites either to friends, to castmates, or to characters they recognize and want to play with, so by default there are going to be fewer invites by number to go around to anyone who isn't one of the above.

it isn't that people aren't going to enjoy playing with obscure canon characters or ocs on the tdm, it's just that when it comes down to giving out their invites, they're much less likely to pick those over a character they know and want.

as a prospective player, i don't like it, but i completely understand why they chose to do it like this and i don't think they were going to find a solution that made everyone happy and didn't drown them in work. i'm not going to bother trying to app anymore, but honestly, i think that's for the best for me and the game. they have a set group of players and an atmosphere they're happy with and that makes me feel like it would have been an uphill struggle for someone who didn't have a friend group going in.

i feel like this is a weird take. my thought is that you play in the test drive and if you impress someone enough, they’ll extend you a invite because they would like to keep playing with you.

nfn but i don't think a lot of people are going to be overly neg in a game plurk where they know their opinion won't change the mods' decision.

everyone's acting like this is a bad decision because it means the game is less likely to pick up randos who just want to sling in an app because the game is popular. maybe the mods are happy with their playerbase and want to keep it. not every game is going to be available to everyone.

that's the thought the mods are going for. this might even happen for some people, though most players will just invite their friends. but that's a positive aspect of invite systems, you know everyone who gets invited in, so it's like a vetting system.

it sounds as though they've had issues with people joining the game just to join it and squatting or doing the minimal amount to stay in, so anything that makes that less likely is good for the game overall.

yeah, especially with anon mods when you don't know if you're not potentially having a go at a friend, people tend to be much more sedate in their responses to official plurks unless they're responding to something egregious.

can we please focus on the issue that actually matters here

now we can't slip into the game and leak things to chortle fatly over here
