if it were an optional surprise consequence i would raise an eyebrow and leave it at that, but this sure doesn't sound like it was optional.
and forced pregnancy is a major no-go for a ton of people.

da here, it was technically optional but it wasn't handled well. the mods did warn heavily for a surprise consequence that would involve body horror if characters chose to have sex with the game's main NPC. the problem was that there was no mention of pregnancy or eggs in that CW. a good handful of players have pregnancy on their hard no list

a lot of people complained once the consequences were revealed and the mods apologized. the mods were responsive to crit afaik

what i did think was strange is that there's a noncon/dubcon heavy event coming up that some players are concerned about, and in the mod plurk, they said: "We're always willing to explicitly spoil things privately for anyone who reaches out with concerns that a CW treads close to a personal trigger. So if something feels vague to you, and you're not sure how to respond, please just hit us up on mod contact or in DM and we'll talk it through with you. There's no reason to sit there in uncertainty and stress about it when you can just ask for more information because it's adjacent to something that upsets you!"

a great policy but that has not "always" been the case as players did publicly ask for more information on the pregnancy adjacent themes as that was unfolding and they were turned away to avoid spoilers

i agree, that definitely hasn't always been the case. pregnancy is a severe trigger for me and i had my suspicions about the "body horror surprise", but was turned away when i repeatedly tried asking for more information. when transparency was most crucial for me personally, the mods proved themselves to be untrustworthy, so i dropped. no rp is worth risking my mental health for.

no, that was not the plot twist. if you participated in one specific part of the orgy, aka your character fucked one very specific npc, then your character developed the ability to impregnate others with eggs during a narrow window of time the following month, which could be played for kink or horror depending on player preference. or you could choose not to have your character fuck anyone, and no one in your character's cr circle would end up carrying eggs. the orgy event included a specific warning that fucking that npc would result in noncon body horror the following month.

the mods are trying to balance providing adequate trigger warnings with not wanting to spoil upcoming plot details. they missed the mark here and acknowledged it, as far as i can tell.

literally all you had to do was not engage in the one prompt that said "engaging with this one prompt will result in noncon body horror next month." there were other prompts you could have responded to. your options aren't only noncon body horror or don't play the game. be serious.

i feel like i'm the only one that remembers games that used to have a spreadsheet for the mods with trigger warnings from players (that they filled out in their app) so that plot/events could be warned for for them or they could avoid anything that related to them. mods had a heads up and players felt listened to.

ok so

was this a case of (1) "ability to impregnate people with horror eggs" was the surprise, and then from that point forward people could choose whether or not they wanted to play out oviposition smut in that time frame...

...or was it (2) "characters who fucked this NPC will experience a surprise body horror consequence that will be in play for the following month," and then, "surprise! all your character's sexual partners are pregnant with horror eggs"

because while (1) is certainly a misstep--since it potentially locks players out of threading smut for a month in what i understand to be a kink horror game, overall i'd consider it to be a tier of offense that is covered by an apology and learning to do better.
(2) on the other hand would be pretty fucking (no pun intended) dire: not only surprise pregnancies with no pregnancy horror warning, but also hitting characters who may not have been at the original opt-in orgy to begin with. this one would make me seriously question the mods' judgment and whether it was appropriate for them to run a game with a lot of potentially triggering content at all.

...it sounds like you're describing the (1) and not (2), but there's been enough talk about a failure to warn for pregnancy horror that i feel like i can't be sure.

It's difficult to avoid this in game because it's all over the network and it's the only mod-provided prompt you can play with this month. Players who don't want to deal with this were left to come up with their own ways of keeping characters busy (comas or player plots), which is something I think the mods should've provided story for.
