my dude there were people in the plurk that was linked in this thread who straight up said they felt oppressed by smut existing so i don't know what you're trying to prove here.

i find it hilarious all these people who without a hint of irony call themselves old, creaky, tired, and full of health problems when they're barely 40 years old. i'm gonna hate to see what they REALLY feel like when they reach 60. or are they already going to be in the nursing home by that point?

I think there are a few reactions to money, and among them are either hoarding it because of anxiety or throwing it at the biggest dopamine hit you can because of anxiety. Either way, you're afraid it's going to be taken away from you and you're going to be left with nothing for yourself. Your reaction is to either cling to it as much as possible or to spend it on what you want before the unexpected has a chance to take it.

I get it on one level. I get seeing other people get to do things, and wanting so badly to do it yourself, and saying that you deserve nice things too and going for it. But on the other hand, it's just a terrible thing to do to yourself, and once you hit a certain age, you should be able to control your impulses better and think ahead.

I spent years and years only ever spending money on food, rent, and medication, with maybe a movie ticket or night out with friends here and there. And now that I have some disposable income, I relish being able to just impulse buy a plush or trinket without worrying about my budget. With luck, everyone who clamps down on those impulses long enough will one day be able to just impulse buy what they want without worrying.

I think we have the same person in our orbit. They are always hundreds if not literally thousands of dollars short on rent, and every month is a new emergency-- then the next post will be them or their spouse talking about their brand new instrument/expensive hobby/fancy posable doll, with zero self-awareness or "I can have a little treat because I'm so stressed" etc. Not trying to tell anyone how to live their life, but when I've been broke and/or unemployed a 'little treat' meant buying a coffee or maybe an on-sale video game, not a $500+ luxury item. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

to be fair, i'm only late thirties and i have days when i feel old, creaky, tired, and full of health problems

i'm not actually old or creaky and my health problems are super mild, but it takes a lot more out of me putting in three or four 12-hour shifts weekly now than it did ten years ago. i'd feel a lot more sympathy for the people in question if they were weary from working, but from all the comments here it's not work that's wearing them out

did barbarians ever have a good year? werewolves at least had residual goodwill from teen wolf, twilight, and harry potter, but i can't ever remember a time when anything barbarian was ever in rp vogue. even with jason momoa that last conan movie went over like a lead weight and i can't remember a single person caring about the game either.

your 30s is when you start to realize you aren't as fit as you were in your early 20s so it's natural to comment on it, usually with hyperbole

and our demographic is often overlapping with people who are indoors for health and disability reasons which can add to it. if it bothers you, i advise muting and moving on because you're a hair shy of seeming ableist rn

There are a lot of people in this community who are disabled, immunocompromised, and deal with deal with severe illnesses. This community draws people into is who don't have outlets outside of the home. A lot of us are full of health problems. Even those of us who were muscling through our twenties with no problem are settling down and acquiring better jobs with healthcare and getting diagnoses for problems we didn't realize were abnormal in the first place.

unfortunately no

(Anonymous) 2023-03-11 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
mine doesn't have a spouse but they're always talking about their real life expenses like rent and transportation and begging for commissions because they're broke...but then going to a con every few months and buying new merch constantly.

sometimes you have to prioritize.

it's not ableist to think that "we're too old and decrepit to do any physical labor" is a weird argument for someone who then says they are in their late 30s/early 40s. especially when it's used as a reason to crowdfund $4000.

Re: MEME PET PEEVES

I don't understand why someone keeps trying it with the dysfunctional meme. It barely gets replies. The dark stuff is already covered by either the taboo meme, or the grotesque meme, that usually get more activity anyway, so it feels like it's time to retire that one.

lol strawman = literally what the person in the op plurk was doing

why are you so defensive of these random grifters

(frozen comment) Re: PLURK PET PEEVES

(Anonymous) 2023-03-11 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
then op should block and unfollow the person in the op

why do we keep entertaining these baity threads when the solution is to just curate your experience if it bothers you so much

ok please give an example of a plurk pet peeves thread that would be acceptable to you, personally, so that we may avoid annoying you further

or maybe just follow your own advice and curate your wg experience? you're the one who seems bothered here, which is interesting because unlike with plurk, you don't even have to unfollow wg. there are no notifs but the notifs you choose to receive. you can be free.

yeah i don't think i've ever seen that meme get any play, so i can't understand why it's reposted so often

one of my favourite threads this year came from it, but i agree. innately, any shipping or smut meme can include a dysfunctional relationship because that's a function of the characters, not the meme

idk maybe it should actually be about rp like the rules of this comm say?
