tbh i figure people on the smutty meme want to ... play smut?? is that weird? am i wrong? is there some reason i shouldn't just wait for the plain truth or dare meme to come back around

the problem is entirely that because bakerstreet is roughly 75% smut memes, the remaining 25% is not always evenly distributed, and gen players don't like every gen thing (any more than smut/shippy players like every smut/shipping thing), there can be long stretches of time when there's literally not a single damn meme on the first several pages of bakerstreet that i can play in. especially since the memes i like tend to get dropped all very close together, most likely out of pure coincidence.

"just post your own" doesn't work because there's a time limit before you can post the same meme, so if the one i like is less than two weeks ago but it's on page five getting no traffic because thirty thousand niche shipping memes with twenty blank toplevels and no actual threads have crowded it off, i just have to sit here and stew.

so yes, that results in some frustration when yet another meme that i could otherwise play on is carefully edited to exclude the sort of threads i am interested in, pushing the last meme that i would otherwise play even further down into the depths of the backlog where nobody will touch it while simultaneously not bringing the repost date any closer.

you realise you're the one causing your own problems by being so picky about what memes you will decide to play in. there's only one meme you like? really?

if people aren't tagging the gen memes then that's not bakerstreet's fault or anything to do with the fact that there are shipping memes, maybe the real reason you can't find anyone to tag you is because you're in a community that broadly prefers smut and shipping and maybe you need to just accept that instead of whining about it

looking at the gen memes currently posted on bakerstreet, imo the biggest problem is everyone just dumping top levels and not tagging around at all. most of them are getting a decent amount of tag-ins but hardly anyone is actually tagging around to get threads started. if half the people who tagged into those memes tagged someone else's top level, there would probably be plenty of threading going on.

that isn't just a problem with gen memes

idk, i generally see way more tagging around on the shipping and smut memes. the last time i top leveled a character in one, i got three tag-ins from total strangers.

people who play in shipping and smut memes seem to be way more willing to just throw their characters around to see what sticks.

there's just a smaller audience for gen only memes, that's reality
