They don't want to rp with just friends. If they can rp with strangers, that "proves" that they're not as bad as everyone says they are. Besides the obvious problems, this does not work because gonsai can never stop being gonsai.

Source: I'm a stranger and a naive idiot who tried to befriend them once. At the time I truly didn't know their reputation besides "they had a reputation." My impressions were: gonsai doesn't know how to carry a conversation that doesn't devolve into them trying to one-up you on fandom knowledge. They treated my castmates really fucking weird, they'd be nice one day and be backhanded and negging them the next day, totally different to how gonsai interacted with me, as if we wouldn't compare notes and agree they were being weird.

I gave up rping with them because not only can gonsai not write engaging tags to save their life, it became clear that they didn't care to know anything about my character and would make totally off-base assumptions about who they were (as if gonsai's character was the ~only one~ who knew my character's true personality), even though I talked about their motivations ooc and I'd write their internal thoughts in tags, so I can only assume they just can't read. Only *after* all this did I find out actual details on their past.

I'm sure if gonsai thinks of me at all they're just crying that mean old wg anons poisoned my brain with baseless gossip or whatever, and not that I ditched them based entirely on their own merits.

i knew of gonsai's reputation, had a few unpleasant interactions with them myself years ago. when they joined a game i was in, i decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and tried to give them a chance by tagging them. experienced the same issues you did. that alone made them obnoxious, but the nail in the coffin for me is when they made an anonplurk asking what they could do to improve their tags. myself and several others responded with actionable, polite feedback, which they then proceeded to ignore and continued to whine about being told their tags were bland and not getting feedback. this was a few weeks after the anonplurk. that left such a bad taste in my mouth that i cut them off not long after.

i could have written this. I gave gonsai the benefit of the doubt when they joined my game, had no idea what the reputation was aside from that there was one, and first-hand experienced the obnoxious one-up-man-ship, the two-faced behavior, and to top it all off they admitted to my face that they submitted wanky RPsecrets about me (this was like 10 years ago, to show just how incapable of change they are as a person), and got upset I wanted nothing to do with them.

it's not some conspiracy against you, gonsai. you're a massive, unlikeable asshole incapable of writing in this writing-based hobby. people hate you because of you.

It almost feels better to know this was a common experience? At the time I wondered if it was someone trying to be possessive in a really transparently pathetic way, because I've had rp partners get weird and overbearing before. Now I just think they desperately need to be the smartest person in the room and they have some compulsive need to shitstirr in any game they're in.

Their tags are boring.

They frequently infomod and godmod.

They lie about and make their characters ooc to trick people into tagging them.

I remember they an anime character the looked young but was immortal. They looked like a kid. G told everyone the character was supposed to look like they were in their 20s and it was just the art style. I talked to a canon familiar friend and she laughed. She said the character was supposed to look like a kid and G was lying to get smut tags.

I was one of the people that stuck around after the jgk stuff blew up because I wasn't involved enough to care. I wouldn't even call us friends because we don't talk in private or anything, but I didn't go out of my way to block them either until now.

It was annoying after the first whiny plurk about this, and there have been a few throwaway plurks in between that were stupid (comparing leftist in-fighting to how dwrp supposedly treated them?), but if this post of theirs has accomplished anything it's given some people a very clear picture of who they are. I didn't bother to sit through pages of "deets" on wg, but seeing this in their own words has made me decide that I don't need this kind of person in my life.

wg didn't ~poison the well~ for me either because I didn't feel like this until I read their post. If they had just shut up they wouldn't keep losing friendships.

I had cr with g in a game a few years back. I gave them a chance because a lot of what I saw about them on anoncomms smelled like grudgewank at first whiff. people talked more about how boring their tags were and how annoying they were to talk to than about the more serious shit they'd pulled, and those things sounded subjective to me, so whatever. I was predisposed to be lenient with them because back then I really did think they were treated unfairly.

there was stuff that was off about playing with them and their ooc behavior, and I ended up distancing the cr after a bit because I didn't want to deal with it. but it was all in the realm of kinda pushy and just short of godmoding, not creepy or toxic. they were all things I've had other people in dwrp do to me before anyway so nothing seemed to stand out enough to make them deserve their rep, even if it was also very obvious why they weren't popular.

but like you it was their own behavior after the jgk wank that tipped things over for me. it was reading their plurks and watching the way they talked about the situation and their friends that made me realize g is not just someone who kinda sucks at rp and likes to one-up people in conversation all the time. I watched them blame everyone and everything else over and over again. they would sometimes say something that got my hopes up that they were beginning to understand the issue, but every single time it would just end up back in the same cycle of them genuinely believing that everyone who was angry at them had just misunderstood the situation or had let themselves be convinced by public opinion like stupid sheep. they just would not accept that a rational person could look directly at their actions and decide they were in the wrong. it HAD to be that they had been swayed by wankgate or misinterpreted something. if everyone would just listen then g's name would definitely be cleared and no one would be mad at them for anything because they hadn't done anything wrong.

it just made it crystal clear that they will never accept anyone else's point of view and I had to bail at that point. they'll never believe it was entirely their own behavior that convinced any of us. I can't believe they're still at it with the exact same story.

I thought about it more and realized that I sympathized with them at one point because I have family members who are textbook narcissists, and in reading the post, I recognized the same behaviors. It made me sick to my stomach. The only difference is that I don't think G is malicious because the wank would be a lot more than being annoying, bland, and socially inept. Especially with that pattern where they sound like they understand the issue but then slip right back into the old habits, I now fully understand how it took over a decade for the community to make a move and also how I didn't see it sooner. The story will never change.

There’s a point where ignorance becomes malice. It’s the point where there is no way to be *that* ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Choosing to be willfully ignorant after people have told them to their face what’s wrong *is* malice. They have an entire post telling them why they fucked up and they still act ignorant. People have told them to their face why they’re a problem and they keep acting stupid. They act stupid on purpose to play the victim and get sympathy. They don’t want to improve. They want to keep mistreating others and that’s malice.

but the wank is plainly more than just being annoying bland and inept. this is someone who intentionally violates DNI requests and victim-blames afterwards, throws their friends under a bus, repeatedly lies to your face, attempts to evade IP bans with multiple VPNs.

it didnt take the community a decade to make a move. its just that there is only so much moving the community can do. he just keeps violating the broad, explicitly expressed desires of literally the entire community that he at a bare minimum keep to himself and hopefully that he leaves.

yeah, sometimes anoncomm stuff really is grudges. but sometimes it's RIGHT. i try to disregard it and form my own opinions but with g they joined a cast i was in and made the entire cast uncomfortable very quickly and in the same ways we'd heard about previously.

another person i saw come up here a lot i gave a chance a couple years back and wg was also right about them. just truly aggressive and unpleasant and i get why people complain about them now.

then there was a third person who actually beat the occasional wg grumbling about them and is just normal and probably does just have a grudgewanker.

but yeah g is one of the ones who deserves the bad hype.
