no i don't care how much of a character they supposedly are or around, the fact that their existence bends every other character's personality around them is enough of a turnoff

this also goes for canons in general where shipping with the mc who may or may not be a malleable canon oc is a common thing. I don't actually mind the mcs on their own is the thing and will ship cross canon, but same canon? Blech

An extremely popular fanon one from an obscure canon that only has like five players for in DWRP. Finally just put it on my permissions that while I'm happy to interact with the other character in a gen setting (and would in fact love to), it's a notp and a hard no for any shipping between them.

the one canon forces on you through queerbaiting even if they have zero chemistry

sometimes it is very well-written and i can see it, but most times those pairs (usually mc/rival or mc/"best friend" who seems to hate them) are more tell than show, like the narrative has to keep telling you they're practically married but the on-screen interaction is one person constantly being an asshole and the other just takes it for whatever reason

I'm probably going to play a BG3 character to toss around memes and I am going to be avoiding all Tavs and Durges like the plague.

The canon het pairings for a lot of sports and shonen anime, or similar things. The romance is usually unbelievable to me, and even if I would write it with a good rper, with development, finding someone who is good and interested in the buildup is often impossible and time consuming.

If I play a character from those specific canons, I would avoid shipping with the protagonists that are supposed to be “you”. MCs that you name and all that. People use that as a chance to play self inserts when they could very well make OCs.

There aren't any pairings that I would never play, but there are a lot of pairings that I wouldn't play except in PSLs with someone I know well because I detest the widespread fanon takes on those pairings:

- enemy-to-lover ships where as enemies the characters have done actual heinous things to each other. I actually enjoy these, but they're so often played as "Oh, but I forgive you because TRUE LOVE." The ambiguity and conflict of reconciling the bad shit with the attraction is the whole point of an enemy-to-lover ship to me :/

- for similar reasons, stalker-stalkee ships. Whyyyyy do so many fandoms want to make these fluffy.

- ships that play into common porn tropes (teacher-student/boss-employee/large age difference/etc) because they almost universally attract people who like the trope better than the characters and will bend characterization to fit.

Any FFXIV WoLxNPC ship, if only because the players get creepily attached due to the self insert nature of the WoL. An acquaintance once had a ship with a notorious one because they didn't know better, and now the WoL player is comparing other players of the NPC to them and infomodding those players to get the same ship dynamic again. They even got an expensive commission of the WoLxNPC ship based on their RP, but it was finished many months after the game ended and the acquaintance moved on.

- pair the spares

- the het ship that came out of nowhere in the last book chapter / 5-30 manga chapters / 2 episodes / 10 minutes / the epilogue

- pairings from sequels that had no chemistry in the original canon (and still don't in the sequels)

- characters who have never met in the canon but are fandom popular because they're pretty

while i’m canon reviewing: their day 1 fandom-assigned f/f pairing, which is their most popular. the other girl is dull and the relationship doesn’t highlight my favorite parts of the character. there is another easy f/f option that really lets her shine and a super toxic f/m one with the fandom bike that i want to psl out.

i play from bg3 and i don't want to ship with astarion. not only is he the one absolutely everywhere but most versions of him in dwrp are so poorly done that they're barely recognizable.
