This game is so unwelcoming. A depressing number of TDM threads just never get tagged. And if you're a dominant good luck finding a submissive unless you have friends in game.

I just went to look at the tdm to see what you mean and nearly every top level has been tagged, though lots of them have just flaked out and ignored their tags from the looks of things

so if you want to be welcomed and get more tags in the game when you app maybe you should actually reply to the tags you get?

My tdm toplevel went completely untagged several posts back in spite of tagging out to several others to show I was genuinely interested, so I definitely walked away from it with the impression of no one being interested.

as someone who was here a while back (like, pre-covid) and loved the premise but dropped because it was mostly SoL instead of leaning in to the darker elements of the game, has that changed at all?

love the dom/sub system and the dystopian setting, and i don't need a ton of metaplot, but i do need more than pure SoL.

That hasn't changed at all. Mods aren't interested in playing up the darker elements and half the player base ignores the setting almost entirely. It's all parties and apphros only.

As someone who joined for the same darker elements, it is entirely frustrating to play into the dystopian setting and have another player just hand wave it away with their next tag.

don't know where the player above me is playing. several events lately have been darker interspersed with some lighter ones. there will always be players who only want to focus on sol and nothing else. there are plenty who don't.

in the past eight months there have been kidnapping and torture plots, body horror, burning at the stake, a new program for characters to rat each other out for violations and a return of the citation system. people who can't find dark in dup aren't looking very hard or need better cr if that's what they're after.

it depends on what you want tbh, if you're looking for darker relationships and smut scenes you'll definitely be able to play them. but it is overwhelmingly slice-of-life.

player characters are explicitly not allowed to impact the setting or even gain status in any meaningful way. the game world is firmly a backdrop to facilitate CR and you aren't meant to do much beyond that. and that's fine, not every game needs to have a dynamic setting and a lot of people just want a smutty sandbox to play CR in, but if you're the type of player who needs your character to have goals and plot momentum and you'd be bored having them settle into a daily routine it's probably not for you.

Every time this game comes up, people complain about the modding and the fact that they can't do anything interesting with the setting. But it's still one of the biggest games in DWRP.

How the hell has no other sex game stepped in to take its place? It's been five years. What stranglehold does this game have on people?

it's not that the game is keeping people there it's that there's nowhere else to go

nobody wants to mod because games have a 10/100 chance of taking off and nobody wants to fail. nobody wants to be anything other than anon-modding, which limits how many people can collaborate together to make a game. nobody has time or effort to detail a game that fifty percent of the playerbase are gonna ask to have changed.

every single time a change to the setting has been brought to a vote, dup players have voted to keep it the same by pretty wide margins when the margins have been shown.

the majority of the players are happy with the game as it is and their cr. the people on wg are the vocal minority who want the game to change for them instead of finding the kind of game they'd prefer to play in.

dup has never been plot heavy or a kind of game characters could change in a big way. when the players vote to keep it as is that points to a decently content player base.
