ok so, mods holding players accountable for missing ac without endless reminders/second chances is reasonable and I think more games should do it tbh.

but this.. yikes. isn't this half the point of having a player comment to the taken list before they are allowed to join the game comms?

unless lab has a real reason to let people join and play in the game without establishing their character as taken, this reads as some pathetic flex of power

yes, that is what's expected in games, to the point where most other games don't approve your journal to join the comm until you've commented on the taken page.

yeah, this player can't follow basic steps of game rp, and if lab had just not let them in without following those steps, instead of changing a process that doesn't need changing, this player never would have been in game to be swept.

the bullshit was completely avoidable, but instead the player was in the game when, if they're paying any attention to their own game, the mods knew they'd be swept.
it is not a leap to read that as a flex of power.

games like that have a form they give you when you're accepted and it generally falls under 'reply to the taken list, make an ac comment, fill out the player form, (and any other small game minutia) to be accepted into the game. welcome and we look forward to playing with you!'

if they didn't do ALL the things on the acceptance, which includes, yes, making an ac top level comment, then they didn't fill all the requirements to join the game. the taken list is only part/half of the requirement. they fucked up. sorry for them, but make a habit of actually doing what you're asked to do when you join a game. if you didn't manage for the month you joined, it doesn't speak well on how you're going to manage the game going forward if you can't do the bare minimum you were asked to do at the very start.

I want you to read your example of an acceptance note, because you said it right there:

if they didn't reply to the taken list, which is the issue cited by the mods, why were they accepted to the game anyway.

maybe it's bad faith to argue that this was a petty power play, though that would be consistent with lab these days, but clearly someome didn't do their job right.

I'm have pointed out more than once that I agree that this player is not cut out for games. frankly, it's not hard to tell. I'm willing to bet the mods could tell too!

and yet, despite the fact that there was a very valid reason to simply not let them in, because they failed to follow simple instructions, the mods let them in only to sweep them now.

if you still don't see the issue here, I don't know what to tell you.

if they hadn't commented to the taken list and also hadn't tagged anything, then sure, they joined a game and ghosted, boot them. but this person made ac. they were clearly interested.

at the very least they should have been sent a message telling them that they had been swept and why. not left to see their name on a drop list and have no idea what had happened.

judging by the list of swept characters they have a lot of lazy players who couldn't be bothered to do their ac properly.

i can't blame the mods for not wanting to go out of their way to cater to a playerbase like that. it's not hard to do your ac every month or hiatus appropriately. too many people in this hobby act like they're gods gift and mods should be grateful to have them in their game so they can just coast along doing nothing to justify staying.

Disagree.

When you get accepted into a game, it's on you to follow the rules. Mods don't have to hold your hand and give you gentle reminders to follow clear rules they gave you. It's not shit mod behavior to not baby and hold an adult accountable for not following instructions.

It also says right in the page if there are problems after AC is processed, it's on you to follow up on it.

you're the type of player who makes modding really fucking annoying

mod teams often have an idea of which journals should be accepted into comms after apps have been processed. it's not unreasonable that the mod team would accept a character journal before a taken list comment is made because 99% of the time the comment gets made within the same hour/day/week of acceptance.

should the mods have notified the player first? sure, it would've been a courtesy, but they shouldn't have to when the 'comment to the taken list' step is included in the acceptance notes already. just appeal the mod decision instead of making a stink about it.

The mods could’ve given them a heads up before sweeping them out the game since they were active. It just seems like Ref honestly forgot to comment on the taken list, but I don’t think this was all wankgate worthy.

It’s been a tough month for some people, showing a little bit of courtesy wouldn’t hurt on the mods behalf.

Unfortunately, Ref just cemented they can never come back to Lab after dragging this whole mess here. It’s ban on sight after this.
