ok before i ask my question i know this isnt the perfect place to ask but i don't want a name attached to it so here we are

i've recently taken up a muse for shadow the hedgehog. i'm sure i'm already being side-eyed, but i wanted a new muse and this one wouldn't leave me alone

buuut i haven't played him since i was 15, currently waiting on an amazon game order so i can re-familiarize myself with canon, and in the meantime, seeking advice for this particular character. anybody ever played/played with one and can give me tips on what i should avoid with him or any shit that's annoying on that character?

i'm sure if i found the right anon i'd get a load of good tips because i can already tell this is one that's nearly-always done badly

no, unless they look drastically different. Like...I'd probably be perplexed if someone was playing Jack Sparrow and then used normal 'ol Depp for his icons (or weirder still, Willy Wonka or something). But if the actor looks more or less like the character I think it's fine.

I fucking hate how my character can never have any meaningful development with his canonmates because the players of said canonmates are so fucking narcissistic about their characters that they always turn threads into being about their characters.

My character has some really, REALLY big issues, both from canon and the game he's in. I just want one thread where he can finally get around to admitting to those issues and realize he needs to change. I also want one thread where things that happen to my character are the focal point of the thread, rather than having him be the shoulder to cry on for all of his canonmates to whine to about their problems. Is that really so much to ask for?

So, the perfect username I wanted was taken. No surprise. But it was important enough for me to actually try to PM the person and ask if they'd be willing to part with it.

I got an error because apparently, after making the account almost four years ago and doing nothing with it, they couldn't even be bothered to confirm their email.

i have a character i have written incest with. i state that willingness in their profile, as well as a disclaimer stating that unless specifically given an okay for it, i won't go there. i figured that would pretty much cover my bases.

i have never been so wrong.

i've had castmates wig the fuck out at me because they see the incest in a meme thread or psl and then avoiding the crap out of me because they're afraid i'm going to force it on them and people pissed off because i played it somewhere else, why am i not playing that with them?!?!? even though they never said anything to indicate they were okay with it.

I'm enjoying the latest game I joined and the OOC atmosphere is lovely, but it still kinda stings when someone from a shiny, popular canon gets a billion tags while I don't.

Especially sucks since the other game I'm playing at is really good about tagging obscure characters, OCs and lone canon warriors.

an app i reviewed once started with "to truly understand this character, we must start with her grandmother"

it then proceeded to explain said grandmother's life from birth to death, then picked up with her kids, and then finally the character themselves.

with no real clue as to WHY, beyond small heirlooms that could have been explained in one sentence, we needed to hear all about granny meeting a wealthy merchant boy with auburn hair who liked to sing but moved away when she was nine.

- Tags from people I've played with before and found boring or creepy.
- Tags from underage characters/underage-looking character on smut memes.

Otherwise I will tag pretty much anyone who tags me back. I know I don't have to, but I like to. I've had some unexpectedly great CR with characters I didn't think would mesh with mine, and I've been leery of players for dumb reasons only to wind up actually really liking to play with them.

Anons: are there any canons that are popular/tend to have big casts that you WOULD NOT say are "fad canons"?

I play from obscure canons a lot and am a lone canon warrior nine times out of ten, but whenever I finally end up liking something that gets a lot of players it inevitably ends up being labelled a fad canon full of flakes. Doesn't matter if it's a movie, TV series, or video game, and some of the canons I like still get called fads when they're ongoing series that are over a year old. I don't mind being a lone canon warrior, but it' be nice to have a cast sometimes without looking like a fad player.

Is there such a thing as a popular-but-not-fad canon, or is the fad label an inevitable part of playing from something popular?
