If I'm remembering this accurately, Jax once wrote a post where Sailor Moon tried to IC explain LGBTQIA sexualities to the network at large once in Deerington.

It was dumb/flawed/try-hard, but it was more clumsiness than active hate or discrimination.

It's weird seeing how much more active this comm was barely 3 years ago.

dwrp is slowing down (not as much as the "rp is dying" anons think but it has gotten smaller) but mostly it's just that people decided wankgate sucks and stopped checking it

there's a lot more private games, which are off limits. and even if they weren't, there's a lot of smaller games, so people are less likely to run to wankgate to bitch about the 14 other people in their 15 person game.

nah, it's not actually much smaller than it used to be, people are just playing mostly in private and invite-only games these days for good reason.

are people actually mostly playing in private games nowadays? most private games i see are tiny, and most of the players i know who play at private games also have at least one public game.

there are certainly less public games cropping up in comparison to private games, but i see people flocking to the same old big jamjars that have been around for years (dup, ryslig, etc) more than i see people leaving public games for private games entirely.

if you're going to find out about them anywhere, it'll be stuff like: paying attention to when some person who you used to be in a game with and never removed from plurk posts about the game they're in and it's something you've never heard of

the players will plurk about what they're up to in invite-only games, same as any other, so you just have to keep an eye out for whether you know someone who knows someone

i mean, you're either in or you're not with most of them, which is am intentional part of the design. i make most of mine and share them with the people i want in them.

I mean, I'm sure there are some. I've seen a few of them on plurk (because people still plurk about the games they're in even if the mods don't advertise). But people here make it sound like there's some giant iceberg of private games beneath the surface that far eclipses public games and I just don't think that's actually the case (unless we're counting random PSLs and museboxes as games now). Public game RP still seems to be the most popular way to actually play, even if private games are more prevalent than they were 5 years ago.

i can say from personal experience that there's a sizeable number of people who play exclusively in private games and a lot of people who play in public games also have a private game or two on the side, like you said. if you're not in the private game circles then you honestly don't really have a grasp on just how many of them there are out there.

i have a pretty large plurk list (i just don't bother to remove people who i don't share games with anymore) and there are a decent amount of private games but public games are still more popular by far

i don't play in short-term/murdergame circles though so ig if that's where they all are you might be right

as for relevance: before gsai's game, what was the last major thing that blew up here and how long ago was it?

In addition to what everyone else has said, I think it also has to do with the fact all the "big time" wankers got tossed out. Second, Ken, that Boston Bomber OC, they're all gone and we've got no one left that is doing anything so dramatically reprehensible that they need to be constantly watched and wanked on. Even the small-timers who used to be dropped here all the time like That Kronk and Selwyn are gone.

Which means all that is left is the dregs of people who are perfectly fine but others just don't like the way they're playing their particular barbie with others. The comm really has become obsolete, it's just the forty people or so who come here refuse to give up the burn book that no long matters.

Eh, if you look it's not like that old wankgate post is filled with Big News either. It's the same combination of petty bitching about popular canons, annoying/cringey players, bad memes etc. there's just a lot more threads and a lot longer threads.
