anon, be fair. the rubi mod contact page has anonymous comments disabled and logs IPs. people are never going to feel 100% comfortable speaking out against a mod initiative, particularly in matters of criticizing tone, when they have to go in logged in or use a VPN.

i don't think i've said anything unfair, and players being unwilling to express themselves to a mod team that is actively soliciting feedback from its player base is not just a mod problem. it is frustrating as a player who has felt supported by this mod team to see them getting dragged here for making changes that aren't actually that unpopular with the rest of the game.

if you don't like the changes, either drop and join a different game, or be an adult and talk to the mods about it directly. they might not change anything, but at least then you'll have done the thing that they actually want you to do, which is bring your concerns to them directly.

i'm truly glad you've had good experiences. but just because you are comfortable criticizing these mods logged in, with ip logging on, does not mean you can make the same request of other players, who might have a different perspective of the implicit power dynamic. mods that genuinely want the most breadth of unconditional feedback take the route of accepting anonymous comments without ip logging. of course any mod can decide they'd rather prioritize their own mh and comfort and limit their exposure to anon comments - but that comes at the cost of accepting that not all players will always feel comfortable reaching out with concerns and criticism.

it's the a trade-off, just like people who are uncomfortable logging in to articulate their concerns are effectively giving up their chance to trigger a response and confining themselves to just venting on anon comms.

sure, power dynamic to the extent that there can be any concept of 'power' in a text-based roleyplaying hobby. there is a degree of authority that mods have in virtue of being able to kick people out of their game, which can't be denied. in light of that, some players don't feel fully comfortable bringing concerns to mods logged in and with ip logging turned on.

it is a mod problem in a game owned by someone famous for harassing other players, now currently being modded by someone who is famous for being really, really unpleasant to interact with. the problem is the mods. people were willing to put up with tifa and keep complaints quiet when they were able to rp however they wanted. these changes break the deal.

Off topic but a comment down there reminded me, does anyone else feel like the players who ship with Tifa's characters get away with a lot more? Whether it's being flaky while holding a lot of important plot, or backseat modding. This has actually made me consider dropping more than the activity stuff.

and they've said that if the changes, once implemented, are very unpopular, they're open to switching things up again. i'm baffled by all of this complaining, esp about pel who afaik has been doing tons of heavy lifting with the npcs.

just give things a chance before deciding everything and everyone involved is doomed to failure.

yeah love being forced to tag someone who is famously shitty in dwrp and also a shit writer just to be part of a plot

tenny and pel being allowed to essentially make their own ocs and use them as npcs in the game while players are required to tag with them was also a terrible idea

didn't the last event literally have a prompt where players who took part were required to thread with the npcs otherwise they would be written out of the plot completely? i don't know how you can look at that and say that players aren't being forced to tag the npcs.

i've also seen the npcs turn up in network posts more frequently and there's no way to opt out of being tagged by them.

can you like. elaborate on this. isn't NPCs being new characters (so: original characters) designed specifically for the game they're NPCs in… normal? and if they are plot-significant, it makes sense that they would have fleshed-out motivations and personalities.

or are you describing an issue where they are played just as actively as PCs, rather than being for special occasions and plot-significant moments? because normally i love getting cr with NPCs to the extent that "cr" is possible in that context—but if (based on other comments here about them replying to network posts) they are played as basically just elevated PCs, that would indeed be… well, weird at best.

people did give feedback and were brushed off and told to wait and see. sometimes that's valid, but these new requirements are ones that a very active player can fail through no fault of their own and that's not going to change a few months from now.

basing it on popularity is also flawed here because there's a specific type of player who will find these requirements very easy to consistently meet. if a decent chunk of the game falls into that category, will feedback from players who are struggling still be heard? it's not a definitive no, but it's a very frustrating limbo to be stuck in when not getting a plot coin has a huge impact on your ability to be involved in the game.

players are already abruptly ending threads to earn plot coins (and some of those players are consistent at never finishing their threads to begin with). the system punishes players who are genuinely here to thread to completion.

+1 and regardless of what the requirements are it has still made AC overly complicated. the minstrel system was difficult enough to figure out before the changes

could be it's just how it's all laid out that makes it confusing, but i don't like needing to factor in so many caveats as i'm threading and assembling a plot coin submission

there are ways to accomplish what they seem to be going for without so much red tape
